Winter Boating Checklist: What to Bring for a Comfortable Day on the Water

Winter in Florida offers the perfect boating conditions, including cooler temperatures, calm seas, and plenty of sunshine! However, even here winter weather can shift quickly and it’s important to always come prepared.

Here is a checklist  to make your next reservation comfortable and enjoyable:

Warm Clothing & Layers

Mornings and evenings can be chilly! Bring a lightweight and weather-resistant jacket for layering. Windbreakers or waterproof jackets are also great for protecting against unexpected weather changes.

Protective & Specialized Accessories

Sun protection is a must, even in the winter! Don’t forget your essentials such as sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. Cozy blankets or towels can also be beneficial for breezy days and when temperatures drop.

Snacks & Refreshments

Warm beverages such as coffee, tea, or hot cocoa can be a great way to stay warm as you take a leisurely cruise around the waterways. You can also pack seasonal-themed snacks to enjoy as well.

Essential Gear

In addition to PFDs (Personal Flotation Devices) don’t forget a dry bag! These help keep your phones and other essential electronics or personal values dry from splashes or unexpected rain.

Fishing Gear

For a day of fishing, make sure you are bringing the correct gear for your target species. Don’t forget to read our fishing guides to check to see what’s in season.

Research

Don’t forget to review the weather forecast before you head out! Winter weather in Florida can be unpredictable and knowing what to expect can help ensure your outing is a smooth trip.
