Boating is all about fun, relaxation, and adventure on the water, but safety should always come first! At Gulf Stream Boat Club, we want every boat club member to feel confident and prepared every time they leave the dock.

Whether you are a seasoned boater or new to the Club, following these essential boat safety 101 tips will ensure a smooth trip every time you head out!
Life Jackets Are a Must
Wearing a life jacket is one of the most important safety measures you can take! Florida law also requires all children under six to wear a life jacket while on board, but we also encourage all passengers to wear one.
All of our boats are also equipped with life jackets in accordance with the vessel's max capacity.

Know The Rules of the Water
Boating, like driving, has its own set of rules. Always follow navigation markers, right-of-way rules, and speed limits, particularly in no-wake zones.
Be courteous to other boaters, steer clear of wildlife, and always practice good boating etiquette. As a boat club member, staying informed about these rules ensures everyone’s safety and enjoyment on the water.
Weather Awareness is Key
Florida’s weather can change quickly, so always check the forecast before heading out.
Avoid boating in rough seas, thunderstorms, or high winds. If you notice the weather taking a turn, it is always best to return to the dock as soon as possible.
Don’t Boat Under the Influence
Boating under the influence of alcohol or drugs is not only illegal but also extremely dangerous,
Impaired judgment and slower reaction times can lead to accidents. Stay safe and designate a sober captain for the day.
Follow Proper Anchoring & Docking Techniques
When anchoring, choose a safe, designated area and ensure the anchor is securely set. When docking, approach slowly, use fenders to protect the boat, and be mindful of currents and wind direction.
Don’t worry, we cover all of this in our new member orientation!
